Six more from my historical western, False Notes. Simon is a Secret Service Agent in Book 1 of the President's Orders series.
"I asked a question."
"I don't remember agreeing to answer." Her voice was muffled as she fussed with her clothing.
As it was, she was under no obligation to answer him. "You know, perhaps I could help you, if it was something illegal." He hoped to God he really hadn't meant those words that came out of his mouth.
